Uji Daya Hambat Ekstrak Daun Pucuk Merah (Syzygium myrtifolium) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus

Red shoots (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp.) are ornamental plants that are widely used to beautify home gardens or as borders on main roads. This plant has a specific morphology, namely the top of the leaves (young leaves) is red, and the bottom (mature leaves) is green. The red shoot leaves that have been crushed are then squeezed using hands with the help of a clean filter cloth to produce red shoot leaf juice. The juice of the red shoot leaves was collected in a sterile 1000 ml glass beaker. The testing technique used the well method, with a total of 3 wells. The negative control used was distilled water, the positive control used was betadine. The content of tannins, saponins, flavonoids and essential oils in red shoot leaves has the potential to be antibacterial, where these phytochemical compounds play a role in inhibiting bacterial growth. Based on observational data, it can be seen that red leaf extract from red shoot plants can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus bacteria with an inhibitory zone diameter of 1 cm. This shows the influence of secondary metabolite compounds contained in red leaves.
